Artist Information
I have been blessed with the gift of being able to play music by ear and cursed with not ever being able to read music no matter how hard I tried. As a child I went through the joys of being selected to play violin based on a hearing test - getting very high scores, and the pains of being thrown out of the class for having wandering eyes instead of looking at my music page and turning it in unison with everyone else!
As a result I have dabbled with all sorts of instruments and found out that I can actually play most things quite quickly without too much trouble.
I feel blessed!

What type of musician are you?
I would say I am fairly experimental, impatient... not very good at being very serious about all of this. A dabbler!
Give a brief history of yourself:
Started messing about with musical instruments and tape recorders from a really early age... can't read music but can throw a tune around and mess around a bit with vocals.
What is the next goal for Hayley Rodgers?
To get a band together and do another gig
Describe your shows visually and musically:
Erm... only done one show so far. It was just me, a microphone and backing CD.
What's your outlook for the recoding industry?
Don't like the superficial elements of it. I am sure there are some genuine people out there!
What are your musical influences?
Anything fairly smooth with a bit of punch somewhere along the line. I like a good bassline!
What are your non musical influences?
Just life in general... experiences, people who bet that I can't make up a song about something! I am easily influenced.
What are your favorite songs?
... of all time - I really liked Prefab Sprout growing up and they had a big effect on me musically. I like Jason Mraz and Rufus Wainwright now.
What are you listening to now?
Zero 7
What are your songs are about?
All sorts of things, from my dog having a spot!!! To someone who caused a lot of grief in their life dying and leaving an aftermath of people who weren't sure if they should be upset or not. Fairly broad!
What inspires you to do what you do?
The magic of being able to sit down and come up with a different combination of sounds each time.
Is there any advice that you would give to other musicians?
Yes... for those of you who are scared of having a go - just don't be! For anyone who thinks they have to know all the theory behind music - you don't... just follow what you think sounds good!
What type of gear do you use?
I-mac powerbook with its built in microphone (a belated christmas present of a shiny new USB microphone should be here any day), Soundtrack, my voice and me guitar!
What are some of your pet peeves?
Not sure if I have any!
Do you have a favorite phrase?
Just sit on your backside and let the wind blow you along... it has worked for me so far!
